Brescia have been linked with bringing in Balotelli, who recently celebrated the Rondinelle’s promotion to Serie A, has a house 200 metres away from their stadium and grew up in the Lombardian commune.

The striker’s contract with Olympique Marseille also expires at the end of the season, but Cellino made it clear he would have to take a considerable pay cut to join his hometown club.

“Mario’s a great friend, a good lad,” the owner told Tuttosport.

“If he decides to play football he’s a great player, there’s little else to add.

“I’m sorry that he often attracts more attention for his faults than his qualities, of which there are many.

“If he adapts to what we can offer him, he’s welcome at Brescia.”
