Italy’s injury fears for Euro 2012 have taken another turn for the worse as Mario Balotelli was reportedly forced to abandon Monday’s training session.

Following on from the recent news that defender Andrea Barzagli could miss the Azzurri’s entire group stage because of a calf strain, there are now concerns over Balotelli’s availability after he had to leave the team’s afternoon training early.

Following on from the recent news that defender Andrea Barzagli could miss the Azzurri’s entire group stage because of a calf strain, there are now concerns over Balotelli’s availability after he had to leave the team’s afternoon training early.

The Manchester City striker is believed to have pulled out complaining about discomfort in his right leg, with reports split between if this centres on his knee or his thigh muscle. The striker will now undergo tests to clarify this and to determine the extent of any possible damage.

Italy kick off their European Championship campaign with a mouth-watering Group C tie with tournament favourites Spain next Sunday in Gdansk.
