The incident occurred at the 72nd minute, when the crowd hurled abuse as he missed a scoring opportunity.
Balotelli at first reacted by putting his finger to his mouth in order to quieten the fans, then complained to the referee.
However, Nicolas Rainville instead showed SuperMario a yellow card.

Nice described the situation via their Twitter account and President Jean-Pierre Rivere also protested the refereeing, noting they were “playing 11 against 12.”
