Davide Ballardini believes Genoa have room for improvement and reveals he had rejected two offers from the Grifone in the past.

The Italian tactician won 2-1 away at Spezia on his return to the Genoa bench.

“It was a nice win, I am satisfied because we played as a team, that’s what I wanted to see. We still need to improve in both phases, sometimes we are too slow to arrive on the ball fist and it can be risky,” Ballardini told Sky Sport.

“Genoa had contacted me twice in the past. This time I didn’t expect the president’s call, but Genoa were struggling and I wanted to help. This time I said yes, because I was looking forward to returning. It was a while since I hadn’t coached and I really wanted to return to Genoa," he added.

“I want to be very clear, I believe this team needs some adjustments. I want to play an offensive football, I want to keep the ball possession and see an aggressive team. We still need to improve but we were humble today and this behaviour is a good starting point.”
