“I feel profound disappointment at the relegation,” said Coach Ballardini in his Press conference.

“The decisive moment was in January, when the other clubs signed between three and 15 new players. We too needed four or five elements to bring new life into the side.

“When we still had Alessandro Diamanti, Panagiotis Kone and Diego Perez we were competitive, then we lost part of that skeleton of the team and things became much more complicated.”

Diamanti was sold to Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande in February, after the transfer window had closed in Italy, so no replacements could be brought in.

“We all made bad choices. I remain proud that I accepted the job. We thought that we could do well, but everyone is responsible, though I don’t know how to divide that up between squad, Coach and club.

“I didn’t like the reactions of some players who spent their entire careers being quiet and running, then at the end explode and say too much. I heard too many words in the locker room.”
