Davide Ballardini said Palermo are “united as a team” after clambering out of the relegation zone with a draw in Florence.

The Sicilians earned a 0-0 draw away to Fiorentina, so with Carpi’s home defeat to nine-man Lazio, they are out of the bottom three.

“My team fights and plays well, trying to earn on the field what it deserves,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I can only talk about what happened when I was on the bench and the team has been united, as a team managing to work in defence and attack.

“It has been a bit of a troubled campaign for many reasons, but the effort was never wanting, on the field or off.

“In my first spell at Palermo we had seven points, so it wasn’t such a disaster. Now we can see everything you want to see in a team: generosity, focus, attitude and quality too.

“These are all important ingredients to achieve results. This is the secret, if there is one, to our current form.”

Palermo host already-relegated Verona in the final round, whereas Carpi visit Udinese.

“It’s only right that it’s tough to the end. There is a healthy amount of stress and tension in the week leading up to this match, where we know we’ve got to do well.”
