With the Rossoblu languishing in 17th, the Renato Dell’Ara outfit decided now was the time to relieve Pioli of his duties.
And the club have moved quickly to name the 50-year-old former Genoa man as their new tactician.
“Bologna FC 1909 can announce that it has entrusted its technical guidance to Davide Ballardini,” a statement read.
“He has a signed a contract until 30 June 2014.”
