“Lazio have been very clear in their approach for the last few years, bringing in players with a lot of experience and quality,” said the ex-Aquile boss in his Press conference.

“This team is always in control of the game and attacks with pace. Lazio are difficult to take on and have a lot of character in the side.

“We know their characteristics and strength very well, so the best way to face Lazio is with character, because you can’t compete with them if you don’t have that belief.”

Ballardini isn’t the only familiar face at the Olimpico, as Goran Pandev returns, as does goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

“I always say Marchetti is agitated in a healthy way. Being that wound up is just what he’s like. I think he should just play his game and not feel the need to prove anything to anyone.”

Genoa have some serious injury concerns going into the Capital, as outlined by Ballardini.

“Pandev had a problem with his back, but he did train yesterday, while we’ll see if Sandro can be included in the squad. I can confirm Lisandro Lopez, Gianluca Lapadula and Andrea Favilli are out.

“Christian Kouame hasn’t been training as much over the last couple of days because he just became a father.”
