He was brought in on Monday night to replace Stefano Pioli after dropping to fourth-from-bottom in Serie A with just 15 points from 18 games.
“The situation is complicated, there’s no point denying it, but Bologna have the players who can get out of it,” said Ballardini in his Press conference.
“From this team I expect capability and effort, as those are the keys to revival. For now I have only overseen two training sessions and I have to say my first impressions are good. The team runs, fights and they’re eager to help each other out.
“As for the transfer market, if we can make any good buys then we’ll decide that when the time comes, but not now.”
Ballardini had also been offered the Bologna bench two seasons ago, but rejected the opportunity.
“I want to explain that my ‘rejection’ was down to my honesty. I was not convinced by the project and, out of respect for the club, I preferred to decline the job.
“I was contacted a few days ago and I am very fired up for this new experience.”
