Davide Ballardini and Mauro Boselli are “super-happy” at beating Sampdoria in a result the Genoa fans desperately wanted.

The rivalry in the Derby della Lanterna was cranked up a notch this evening, as the 2-1 win puts Samp in the relegation zone.

“It was not a great derby in football terms, as we were both too tense,” said the Coach after a 97th-minute winner.

“Above all in the second half there was too much tension and haste, so we didn't play the way we wanted to.

“The fans deserved a more entertaining match, but it certainly wasn't easy considering what was at stake.

“We are super-happy with the result, even if we know that we can do better.”

Boselli came off the bench to score the last-gasp goal and spark huge celebrations in the Grifone stands.

“It is such a strong emotional moment for me,” said the striker on loan from Wigan Athletic.

“We just wanted to win the derby, because it is a game that means so much to the fans. Even if they have been critical of us, we always fought t give our supporters the victory.”
