Director general Mauro Baldissoni confirms “Francesco Totti will continue to play for Roma”.

The Giallorossi captain is out of contract at the end of the season, and there has been a long saga surrounding a one-year extension.

However, following reports last night that a deal is close, it now appears an official announcement is imminent.

“Francesco Totti is an idol here in the United Arab Emirates,” Baldissoni said on Roma TV, as the Lupi contest a friendly against Al Ahly.

“Even more so than [Mohamed] Salah. It’s nice that they are the two who are most acclaimed by the fans, it seems like a nice handover between the past and the future of the club.

“Although I must say, Totti will continue to play for Roma and will be part of the Giallorossi family for a long time to come.”

Baldissoni also took a moment to comment on Kevin Strootman’s recovery after a series of knee injuries.

“We’re very happy that his rehabilitation period is finally over. He’s suffered a lot in these past two years, because he’s basically missed two whole seasons.

“It’s a great joy to have him back with us.”
