The 84-year-old welcomes the appearance from an ‘outsider’ at the top of the standings as Atalanta are cementing their place as a force to be reckoned with in Serie A.
“They could do it as well. Sure, why not?” said Bagnoli in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. “For years Atalanta have been among the big clubs in our championship. They have installed themselves in the top places of the league.
He says he is struggling to remember the feeling from ’85, but knows for sure that it was a “beautiful year” and it will be “difficult to emulate” that feat.
He continues to add that he would enjoy a change at the top for once and is impressed by Atalanta’s abilities to build a foundation on young talent.
“It gives me pleasure to see the smaller clubs, let’s say not the usual top clubs, achieve great results. Because normally these results come from hard work.
“I’ve always seen Atalanta as a club who produce a lot of youngsters, something I really like."
Tomorrow, Atalanta are facing a massive test at the San Paolo, when they face fourth placed Napoli.
