CEO Michael Bolingbroke has revealed his plans to return Inter to being a consistent presence in the Champions League.

The ex-Manchester United CEO, who was appointed in July of this year by President Erick Thohir, says he is not intimidated by the prospect of working in a different reality like that of Italian football.

“In Manchester I had a fantastic period, but it was time for a new challenge,” Bolingbroke has considered to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“For me Inter are a Champions League club, even if they haven't been playing there for a few years – because like all football brands, it has an appeal which is ongoing over time.

“When you think about Inter, that's what you still think of.

“And what I want is for this club to return to the Champions League with stability – not just for a year but for a long time.”

Bolingbroke seemed quite positive about Inter's chances of making the Champions League as early as this year.

“Why not?” quipped the Inter director. “There are two paths, with different dynamics.

“Inter can be third in the standings, or they can win the Europa League.”

Bolingbroke derives much of confidence from the Nerazzurri's newly returned Coach Roberto Mancini.

“Mancini is a winner. I'm not talking just about his past with Inter, but also about the things he did with Manchester City.

“I was on the other side and I was able to witness how he transformed the mentality of that team.

“It was a mid-table club and he led them to victory.”

But the ex-United CEO was a bit more vague when asked whether he and Mancini were ‘friends’.

“We knew each other…” smiled Bolingbroke, with no further comment on the topic.
