Roberto Mancini’s men have struggled to find the net in recent months and it is a problem that stretches well beyond his tenure.

In 2018, Italy only scored more than one goal in a single game: the 2-1 friendly win over Saudi Arabia on May 28, which also happened to be Mancini’s debut.

More disconcertingly, the last time Italy had more than one goal in a competitive match was the 5-0 drubbing of Liechtenstein on June 11, 2017.

Curiously, that 2018 World Cup qualifier was also played at the Dacia Arena in Udine, where the Azzurri will be in action this evening.
