“This is an important test against a side that is doing very well, but it cannot be considered decisive for the outcome of the season,” the director of sport told Mediaset Premium.

Inter have gone from unbeaten to suffering three defeats in a row between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

“I saw the team working well in training and even though the results were not great recently, the performances were still strong. You don’t grow without setbacks to learn from.”

The Nerazzurri have made no secret of their interest in defender Stefan de Vrij, whose contract with Lazio expires in June.

“These are not the situations where you should discuss transfer matters. We are evaluating some opportunities on the market, but we have a strong team that can improve its current position. We are also aware that we can find something on the market we don’t already have, so we’ll see if it can be done.”

There are also multiple reports that Joao Mario will leave in January, as he is unhappy at the lack of playing time.

“Luciano Spalletti said it already, he is 100 per cent staying. The same goes for Joao Cancelo. Nobody has asked to leave Inter and we never thought of sending them away. There is time and space for everyone.”
