Inter director Piero Ausilio confirms Nicolò Barella should sign a new contract, while he is ‘not surprised’ that Antonio Conte took the Tottenham Hotspur job.

The Champions League tie with Sheriff kicks off at 20.00 GMT, you can follow the build-up and action as it happens from that game and Milan-Porto on the LIVEBLOG.

“It’s important to win today so we can leapfrog Sheriff in the group and be in a situation where we only have to depend on our own results,” Ausilio told Mediaset Infinity.

“There is only one result we are interested in tonight. We’re on the right track, Simone Inzaghi only started working with all the players from mid-August, then there were breaks for international duty, but he has been able to give an identity to the team and carry on the work we started last season.”

Inzaghi had to replace Conte, who left over the summer by mutual consent and has now signed for Tottenham Hotspur.

“I was not entirely surprised, because I know his passion and desire to work, especially in the Premier League, which he really enjoys. I think Conte accepted because he is convinced that he can do a good job at Tottenham and I hope he can do it.”

Ausilio turned to the future of the current Inter squad and discussions over contract extensions, after Lautaro Martinez finally signed his deal.

“We are planning for the present and the future with the players we have. Thinking that these players are admired by clubs around Europe does not frighten us, it is pleasing to know.

“We will soon finalise Barella’s contract and then start discussing the extensions with the others, including Marcelo Brozovic.”
