Inter director of sport Piero Ausilio discussed the search for a new Coach, expected to be Stefano Pioli, and why it was “time to change” Frank de Boer.

The Nerazzurri sacked De Boer after just 84 days on the bench, having lost seven of his 14 competitive games in charge.

There is still no replacement, but Pioli appears to have won out over Marcelino and Gianfranco Zola, while other options included Guus Hiddink, Marco Silva and Francesco Guidolin.

“A lot has been said over the last few days, when in reality we did very normal things in the calm search for a new Coach, seeing as we had a talented guy like (Primavera youth team Coach Stefano) Vecchi already,” Ausilio told Mediaset Premium.

“We saw three people, not 20, even if every now and then people like to create a bit of cinema around Inter. In 48 hours we’ll let everyone know what our choice us.

“We discuss everything with the club owners. Inter are not divided and we can’t come out and deny every story every day. The new owners have only been here for four months, we must give the club time to readjust its structure.

“Something didn’t work with the former Coach, but we have to look forward and do better. We have the humility and sense of responsibility to do better. We just need a couple of days and then there will be an announcement.”

Does Ausilio regret the very public backing of De Boer so close to his dismissal?

“Absolutely not. When I say something I am always sincere. In two days there was yet another negative result, whereas we were expecting something different.

“As well as the results, there were other variables and a more in-depth analysis to be made. The moment had come to change, but defending the Coach to the end is part of my job.”

Is agent Kia Joorabchian really running the show as unofficial consultant to the Suning Group?

“I have to smile when it comes to Kia, as I’ve known him for 10 years. Kia is an agent, whether or not he has a rapport with Suning is not a problem for us.”
