Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio assures “we’re delighted” with Luciano Spalletti and “I don’t think there’ll be a problem” with his renewal.

The Coach is out of contract at the end of next season, and there has been speculation that he could be fired if the Nerazzurri fail to qualify for the Champions League.

“At the moment Spalletti’s renewal is more media stuff than anything else,” Ausilio told reporters outside the Premio Maestrelli awards.

“I don’t think there’ll be a problem in organising the future with him, because we we are very happy with him and Suning Group have great ambitions.

“The next target will be a strong player, maybe from a big club, who is young.”

Ausilio also spoke to Premium Sport about the season, with a potential Champions League play-off against Lazio on the final day.

“Lazio will be a final if we do our duty with Sassuolo. May 20 is still a long way off though, we need to take it one game at a time.

“Right now we’re only thinking of Sassuolo, then if things go the way we want them to we’ll focus on the last game.

“We have improved by 13 points compared to last year, for us growth counts and we are growing, we’re getting ready for next season.

“Our objectives were clear, we knew it’d be a season of revival but don’t forget that the Spalletti project only started in July.

“We added some new players but started with a group that was similar to that of the past few years, and we immediately got results.

“In November we were top of the table but we knew the overall objective was to return to the Champions League.

“We’ve had some highs and lows, but I’m convinced this Inter is better than the one of October or November when we were top of the table.

“That might make you smile, but that’s the way it is and the Coach agrees. Inter is a mature and aware team that has grown a lot.

“Other projects started years ago, ours is only a year old but we’re convinced it’ll be better in the end.

“We will do everything to be competitive in the league and in the Champions League if we qualify.

“If we can’t finish fourth we’ll do everything we can do for our fans, to make sure we’re competitive again.

“The Champions League brings something something extra from a financial point of view, but from a technical point of view nothing would change, Suning’s ambition would be the same.

“This season remains positive and can become excellent if we get fourth place but it’s a great starting point for the coming years.”
