“Inter have to be Inter, regardless of what the other teams do or who the opponents are. We just need to win,” director of sport Ausilio told Mediaset Premium.

“If the season ended today, we would’ve missed our target of Champions League qualification, but there’s only a one-point gap and five rounds to go. It’s still open.

“We have many plans for the future, both with and without Champions League football. I don’t think we’ll need to necessarily sell a big player if we don’t get into the tournament, as last season we found a different way to balance the books too.”

Yann Karamoh starts this evening, but summer signing Dalbert seems to have vanished.

“Dalbert has a lot of quality and we knew he’d take a while to settle, especially as he has so many talented players ahead of him in the squad. I won’t name names, but I will say that Dalbert is the player with the most offers from abroad. He is highly sought after in Germany, England and also in Italy. We receive a lot of calls about him.”

Ausilio was also asked about reports Manchester United are making a bid for Valencia-owned right-back Joao Cancelo.

“As for Joao Cancelo, I want to make clear that he has signed a four-year contract with Inter and we have an option to buy. If we do what we’re planning, which is to activate the option, we won’t need to negotiate anything.”
