Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio admits his side’s performance against Bologna was ‘not the best.’

The Nerazzurri had made a 100 per cent start to their Serie A season, winning four out of four, but they needed a late Mauro Icardi penalty to escape with a draw against Roberto Donadoni’s team.

“We are well aware that Bologna wasn’t our best performance, but we didn’t lose and considering the way things were going, we could easily have won,” Ausilio commented ahead of Inter’s match with Genoaat the San Siro.

“I see professionals who are focused in the staff. I see players who have understood the situation.”

The official added that despite their positive start to the season, there is still much work to be done at the Meazza.

“It’s far too early to say this is a finished project, as there’s a lot of work still to be done and we need to concentrate on the details.

“This is a team where you have players like Brozovic, a Croatia international, and Joao Mario, a Portugal international, so there is competition for places.

“Depending on what the Coach decides, there are always 11 players who start and there’s quality all the way through the squad.”

Ausilio was also asked about speculation linking Inter with a move for Genoahot teenage prospect Pietro Pellegri.

“I won’t rule anything out, but Pellegri is a talented player and Inter already have young forwards just as talented in house.”
