Atalanta have released a statement condemning the incident that saw Lazio goalkeeper Pepe Reina hit by a coin and vowed to help find and ban the person responsible.

During the final minutes of Saturday’s 2-2 draw at the Gewiss Stadium, Reina’s penalty area was pelted by objects thrown from the stands, including a roll of Sellotape.

Video captured the moment a coin struck Reina on the head, although he was fortunately able to carry on and finish the match.

Atalanta released a statement today condemning the incident, assuring the club is ‘at the full disposal’ of the authorities to help identify and ban the individual responsible.

“The uncivilised behaviour of the few cannot and must not damage those who truly care about Atalanta and Bergamo.”

Atalanta risk a stadium ban after the incident and hope that by co-operating to find and punish the individual, they can lessen the likelihood of an overall club sanction.
