Atalanta director Pierpaolo Marino had no doubts that German Denis could ripple the net regularly in Serie A.

The Argentine is currently top of the scoring charts thanks to his 12 goals in 16 games for the Bergamo outfit.

Marino signed Denis for the second time in his career over the summer from Udinese, after previously netting him while he worked in Naples.

“He scored a lot of goals in Argentine before I took him to Napoli,” Marino told Radio Sportiva. “He’s always had an eye for goal.

“I have to say that the success he has enjoyed this season comes from the great determination and belief that the player had in accepting the Atalanta project.

“He knew that this was his last chance to leave his mark in Italy.

“You also have to congratulate boss Stefano Colantuono for immediately understanding the qualities of the player.

“To see him ahead of the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antonio Di Natale in the Capocannoniere charts is incredible.”

Denis’ fine form has meant that Under-21 sensation Manolo Gabbiadini has been rarely used in the top flight.

Marino, though, has rejected the notion that the 20-year-old could be set for a January exit from his hometown club.

“We won’t sell him,” the official continued. “Gabbiadini will stay here even in front of big offers. We know how to look after youngsters in Bergamo…”
