Atalanta and the local authorities have identified the man who hurled racist abuse at Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, and that wasn’t his only offence.

The incident was caught on camera, with the man’s voice clearly heard shouting racist insults at the Senegal international after a Serie A home defeat.

Atalanta apologised to Koulibaly and pledged to help the local authorities to identify the perpetrator.

According to Il Mattino, that process has successfully been completed, as he was caught on a different amateur video recorded by a supporter at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.

It seems as if the man was a repeat offender, as he was spotted repeatedly insulting various members of the Napoli squad and even threw a plastic cup full of beer onto the pitch.

The individual is facing legal action and will be banned from all stadiums in Italy.

He is reported to be in his 40s and from the city of Bergamo.

  1. For a fanbase well known for its left wing voice – anti-fascist, even – I couldn’t believe it when I heard that an Atalanta fan had done this.

    Always one clown though, eh

  2. No need to politicise the issue as right or left. People like this come in all walks of life and Italy is no way as bad as Eastern Europe in their treatment of ethnic minorities. But to be surprised by the left is an understatement as they are the most bigoted in their snow flake one size fits all world view. How do I know I used to think like them but I grew up and started paying taxes.

Let’s not politicize this, he says, as he attempts to obscure that hard material fact that racist ethno-nationalism in Europe is an overwhelmingly right-wing phenomenon.
