Atalanta are the only Italian side in the Europa League Round of 16 and could face Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen, Galatasaray, Monaco or West Ham.

La Dea swept Olympiacos aside 3-0 in Athens this evening, 5-1 on aggregate, to secure their place in the next phase of the tournament.

Lazio were eliminated by FC Porto and Napoli crushed by Barcelona, so Atalanta remain the only Serie A representatives in this tournament.

The draw for the Round of 16 will be held in Nyon on Friday at 11.00 GMT, with eight group winners as top seeds and the eight play-off victors unseeded.

That means Atalanta will face a difficult test, as options include Eintracht Frankfurt, Galatasaray, Bayer Leverkusen, Lyon, Monaco and West Ham United.

4 thought on “Atalanta face potentially tough Europa League draw”
  1. Those are hard? Not easy for sure, but they are at least equal to each of those teams. The more difficult matchups would be with Barcelona, Porto or Sevilla. They actually luck out for now.

  2. They can beat all of them, but Leverkusen, West Ham and Lyon are probably the toughest they could face.

  3. Atalanta our great Italian hope! Please do us proud. I hope that even all (or most) non supporting Atalanta fans (myself included) get behind you and give you backing you deserve to keeping an Italian side competing in Europe to go all the way!

    You deserve it!
