Gian Piero Gasperini hailed the progress made by Atalanta after their 2-1 win over Inter.

Mauricio Pinilla’s late penalty gave La Dea their third win in four League matches and means they have now taken seven points from matches against Napoli, Fiorentina and the Nerazzurri.

“We played a great match, I am satisfied,” Gasperini said following the final whistle on Sunday afternoon. “We were better in the first half, especially technically, where Inter should have been stronger.

“We played a great match, I am satisfied,” Gasperini said following the final whistle on Sunday afternoon. “We were better in the first half, especially technically, where Inter should have been stronger.

“The first matches went wrong, like Lazio and Sampdoria, but then our growing process has made us do better.

“Now we are a team who try to play good football and reap the rewards. The regret is that we didn’t score the second goal in the first half.

“Now we are playing with calmness, confidence and precision.”

Gasperini then explained why he was sent to the stands by referee Daniele Doveri.

“The second half started differently, they gave some dubious free kicks against us, one of which led to the goal. I protested and they sent me away.”
