Hellas Verona and Atalanta are the latest clubs to confirm positive COVID-19 tests upon the return from their Christmas break.

Verona announced that defender Giangiacomo Magnani has tested positive for the Coronavirus.

He has been vaccinated, but is still having some symptoms, and is self-isolating at home.

Because he has not been in contact with any of his teammates over the last seven days, there is no need for the rest of the squad to go into a ‘bubble’.

Meanwhile, Atalanta also confirmed that two members of the matchday squad have tested positive, although they are not named and it is not clear whether they are players or members of staff.

The spike in cases seemed inevitable after players took time off to visit their families, some travelling to different countries, during the Serie A break for Christmas.

Everyone had to take a test before resuming training, which has seen a huge surge in new cases.
