The Orobici struggled to create big chances in the first half and could thank goalkeeper Marco Sportiello for entering at the break without conceding.
But within two minutes, the match was out of reach for the visitors, as Mario Pasalic had enough time to take one touch and steer it into the corner from 12 yards, before Luis Muriel picked out the top corner in style to make it 2-0.
Pasalic added his second and Atalanta's third after 73 minutes, before substitute Piccoli scored against his parent club with his first touch after coming on.
