Two doctors have been summoned to attend a hearing on Thursday in relation to the death of Davide Astori, news agency ANSA reports.

The Fiorentina captain passed away in March, suffering a heart attack in his sleep ahead of a game with Udinese.

While no foul play is suspected, an investigation was carried out to determine whether his death was preventable.

Yesterday it was reported that two cardiograms had shown “small clues” that his heart wasn’t working properly, and that he should have been sent for further tests.

Prosecutor Giuseppe Creazzo is investigating a possible culpable homicide, and ANSA states that two doctors, Giorgio Galanti of Florence and Francesco Stagno of Florence have been summoned to a hearing on Thursday.

They will give evidence to Creazzo and the head prosecutor on the investigation, Antonio Nastasi.

The men will answer questions about allegedly signing off Astori’s pre-season check-ups when he should have had further tests.

It will then be decided if the investigation should be dropped or taken to trial.
