Davide Astori believes the two games with Bayern Munich “will be the key” to Roma’s Champions League.
The Giallorossi thrashed CSKA Moscow 5-1 and earned an impressive 1-1 away to Manchester City, but their next two games are back-to-back with the Bundesliga winners.
“The important thing was to start well and not get embarrassed, which we achieved,” the defender told Roma TV.
“The two games with Bayern Munich will be the key to amassing points in this group and giving us the belief to play for a good chunk of our season.”
Astori arrived over the summer from Cagliari and admits he didn’t expect such a remarkable atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico.
“The sensation is completely different, as when you’re here as an opponent you feel the warmth of the crowd, but from the inside it’s amplified. The new players settled in very quickly and we have to continue like this.
“Rudi Garcia gave a chance for us to rapidly get into the mechanism of the team and to play important matches without feeling out of place. The foundations of this Roma side are very solid.”
Astori also knows full well what the most important game of the season will be.
“The moment I arrived, I realised how strong the rivalry is between Lazio and Roma, how much the derby is felt when you’re in the city. I knew this was going to be a wonderful adventure.”
