Aston Villa forward Nicolo Zaniolo has arrived at the offices of the Turin Public Prosecutors for questioning regarding alleged illegal gambling.

Gianluca Di Marzio details how the 24-year-old Italian has been accused of taking part in illegal gaming or betting activities, having allegedly placed bets on unregulated online platforms.

Unlike Juventus’ Nicolo Fagioli and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, who both reached plea deals and received lengthy bans, Zaniolo has only admitted to using unregulated betting platforms, claiming that he was only betting on poker and blackjack but not football.

The Aston Villa midfielder will be questioned by prosecutor Manuela Pedrotta, who is the head of the investigation into the illegal betting platforms.

Should his turn of events be true, Zaniolo would only risk being handed a fine and wouldn’t be given a ban like Fagioli and Tonali.

In the meantime, Zaniolo was on the pitch for Aston Villa’s Conference League win over AZ Alkmaar, playing 21 minutes after replacing Douglas Luiz in the second half.
