Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has included Franco and Valentin Carboni in the preliminary squad for the next two World Cup qualifying games and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, that’s a move to prevent them from playing with Italy in the future.

Born in Buenos Aires, the Carboni brothers have an Italian passport and have already played at a youth level with the Azzurri.

Valentin, 17, is an attacking midfielder and right winger. He has scored four goals in 11 appearances with Italy U17 squad, while his brother Franco, 18, is a left winger and scored on his debut with the Azzurri U18 squad in June 2021.

They are the sons of former Catania midfielder Ezequiel Carboni and have been included in Argentinean’s preliminary 44-man squad for the last two World Cup qualifying games against Venezuela and Ecuador. Argentina have already qualified for Qatar 2022.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Scaloni could ask the Inter starlets to travel to South America for the upcoming international break. If they make their debut with Argentina, they will no longer be allowed to play with Italy.

  1. I would not be that bothered. We have very good footballing youngsters that want to play for Italy so they have the right to play for Argentina. Good luck to them both.

  2. Have they accepted the call by Scalon

They could feel more Italian and reject the call, especially since they’ve been part of the Italy Youth NT’s.
