Aurelio Andreazzoli had “nothing but praise” for Empoli after their 2-1 win at Sampdoria closed up the battle to avoid relegation significantly.

The Azzurri kept their hopes of achieving safety alive with that victory, as they are now on 35 points with Genoa on 36, Udinese and Bologna 37, plus Parma 38.

Even Fiorentina and Cagliari on 40 points cannot consider themselves safe with three rounds to go.

“We were desperate for the victory today, and we are so happy that we were able to achieve it,” Andreazzoli told Sky Sport Italia.

“Our wide players were excellent, and the midfield put in a great shift. We were able to do what we worked on during the week.

“Our hard work and quality are now beginning to shine through, and we have been able to find some consistency from a physical point of view.

“It really was a great performance by the boys, I’m so proud of them and I have nothing but praise for them.”
