Empoli coach Aurelio Andreazzoli jokes about Patrick Cutrone’s winner against Napoli: ‘It’s something we’ve been trying for so long, finally, it worked.’

The Tuscans secured a historic 1-0 win at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, but their winner was quite casual.

A corner was cleared by Anguissa, but he nodded it onto the back of Patrick Cutrone’s head and the ricochet at the near post took it into the net.

“It’s something we’ve been trying for so long. Finally, it worked,” Andreazzoli said, smiling in his post-match interview with DAZN.

However, the Tuscans’ victory was all but casual.

“This week, we saw that we can only win games with sacrifice and participation, helping each other,” Andreazzoli said.

“This is something crucial. It’s not about the tactic or the technique.

“I had told the guys that it was possible, that we could make it. The players are helping each other, they know everyone is essential, there aren’t just 11 starters here.

“I’ve always had the necessity to reward my players and the only way to do so is to make them play. But if you only have 15 regular starters, then you won’t get there,” Andreazzoli continued.

“I’ve changed my methods as well. I used to tell the line-up to my players the day before the game. Now, they know it at the hotel, before going to the stadium. I see that they feel rewarded.

“It gives me satisfaction to see the lads improve and try to win in every pitch. I like to work more than to celebrate, but it gives me satisfaction to see my players happy.”
