Empoli coach Aurelio Andreazzoli was pleased with the ‘cynical and solid’ performance in the 2-0 win over Cagliari on Wednesday.

The newly promoted side picked up their second win in Serie A 2021-22 at the Sardegna Arena, as Federico Di Francesco and Leo Stulac scored for the visitors.

Andreazzoli was happy with the performance against Walter Mazzarri’s men on his 50th match in Serie A.

“We are happy,” Andreazzoli told DAZN. “We claimed a great result. We have been very productive and I’m happy with that.

“We had clear ideas and were cynical in front of goal, on a pitch like this and with these spectators.

“We bring home a great satisfaction.”

Empoli secured their second clean sheet too and Andreazzoli admitted he targeted such a performance.

“I think it’s the aspec that satisfies me the most,” continued. “We needed a performance of this type. In possession, we usually have this prerogative, but we needed confirmation and doing it here against these forwards gives us the conviction that we can improve quickly.”

Liam Henderson saw Alessio Cragno off his line but the daft attempt hit the crossbar and Andreazzoli felt he deserved a goal.

“I saw Cragno off the line, but I didn’t think of such a situation,” he said. “He was able to see it and it would have been the icing on the cake for him, because he played a great game.

“I thought I had to replace him, but he held out until the end and gave quality and clarity to the team.”
