The Partenopei had fought back from 2-0 down to equalise through Faouzi Ghoulam and Dries Mertens, but Federico Santander completed his brace to give Bologna the 3-2 victory.

“We achieved our objective of second place three weeks ago, so no, this defeat doesn’t hurt at all. We wanted to put in a good and attacking performance, which we did. We could’ve won, we lost, it changes nothing,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Now we can start preparing for next season in a relaxed fashion, there’s no need to rush things. Considering all our attacking play, we don’t convert enough chances. Quite a few hit the woodwork, including tonight, but we do also need to be more clinical in front of goal.”

Does that mean Napoli are going to spend big on a forward over the summer?

“We’ve had about 60 players mentioned as joining Napoli in the media, so obviously quite a few of those rumours are false. We’ll bring someone in. We have clear ideas.”

Ancelotti was asked for a clue with the nationality of Napoli’s best summer signing.

“I don’t know. Well, I do know, but I’m not telling you.”

Could Fabio Quagliarella return to Napoli from Sampdoria?

"Anything's possible."

Allan and Kalidou Koulibaly were suspended today, while Napoli only really caught fire once Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon came off the bench.

“Callejon can attack the space and is very intelligent tactically when it comes to defending. There are wingers who are better at going forward, but he provides a great deal of balance and is therefore very valuable.

“Fabian Ruiz and Piotr Zielinski impressed me today, they are modern midfielders who run with the ball when the space opens up. They need to be trained to have more balance and defend better. Allan co-ordinates with both of them well.”
