Carlo Tavecchio confirmed an American investment group “is interested” in buying Parma.

The club is on the verge of bankruptcy and a tribunal hearing is set for March 19, though current President Giampietro Manenti continues to insist the money will arrive.

“It is true, an important legal firm in Rome contacted me with this hypothesis of an American group,” FIGC President Tavecchio told Sky Sport Italia.

“I cannot quantify the American proposal, but I can say the Federal debts alone are €50m.”

Everyone except Manenti is pushing for Parma to be put into controlled administration, paving the way for new owners to take over.

The Lega Serie A voted for a €5m bailout package to enable Parma to reach the end of the season, though Tavecchio reveals it wasn’t plain sailing.

“Considering the situation that could’ve occurred with a loss of television rights money, the Presidents changed their minds and voted to help Parma.”

Meanwhile, the issue remains of how to prevent this situation from happening again in future.

“We are studying new rules to register clubs for the new season. If we went back to the regulations from 2007-08, few clubs could realistically make it.

“We are planning out a new three-year strategy to change things.”
