The Italian Ambassador to the UK is confident the Azzurri will be supported at Wembley against Austria by Italians living there.

The Euro 2020 Round of 16 kicks off at Wembley Stadium on Saturday at 20.00 UK time.

As travel is going to be very difficult due to the growing COVID cases in the United Kingdom, Italy and Austria will mostly be cheered on by fans based in Great Britain.

“First of all, the conditions are perhaps more welcoming in terms of heat than Italy when it comes to playing football,” Ambassador Raffaele Trombetta told Sky Sport Italia.

“London is beginning to reopen, and it’s true there are elevated cases due to the Delta variant, but that needs to be put in context with the number of vaccinations and also tests, which are also very elevated.

“We think there are circa 700,000 Italians in the UK, plus the second-generation Italians, who are getting used to the idea of a United Kingdom outside of the European Union.”
