Former Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic would have turned 54 today, prompting an outpouring of love from clubs in Serie A.

The Serbian coach announced in July 2019 that he’d been diagnosed with an acute form of leukaemia, forcing him to undergo chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Despite the illness, Mihajlovic stayed on as Bologna squad, leading the team until his dismissal in September 2022.

Mihajlovic tragically passed away in December of last year, over three and a half years after his initial diagnosis. A modern legend of Serie A, his death touched the world and figures of Italian football.

A number of Serie A clubs paid tribute to Mihajlovic on what would’ve been his 54th birthday today. Milan remembered the Serbian coach and wrote: “We will never get used to your absence. Always in our hearts, Sinisa. The first birthday without you. You have left an unbridgeable void.”

Fiorentina shared a photo of Mihajlovic during his time at the club alongside a heart emoji, giving supporters a place to remember the Serb.

Sampdoria remembered the Serbian coach with a short but touching message, commenting: “Best wishes up there, Sinisa.”
