Massimiliano Allegri reveals he “will stay at Milan save for surprises” and what everyone expected of Antonio Cassano.

“I don’t think there will be any problems over my contract renewal, as everything is fine with President Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani. I will stay at Milan save for surprises, and thank the club for this opportunity,” he told Verissimo.

“The Champions League is one of our objectives, but we’ll only get serious with that in February. Before then we’ll give our maximum efforts to Serie A, as we cannot afford to take our foot off the accelerator.”

Allegri won the Scudetto at his first attempt in a big club and has generally handled the many egos in the Rossoneri locker room.

“The players have really helped me in that, as they always give the right response whether facing a problem or accepting the bench. Of course, it’s understandable to be a bit angry, but it always passes quickly.

“Do some of them party too much? Well, they are still young men and we can’t expect them to spend all day at home. They can have fun, of course, but the important thing is to do it judiciously. They are professionals and must behave like them.”

One of the fieriest characters in Italian football is Cassano, who arrived a year ago after he was frozen out from Sampdoria.

“Antonio is above all a great champion. When he first came here, everyone was afraid of some crazy behaviour, but I was very happy to have him. Now he has settled in brilliantly. Mario Balotelli? Maybe he’d have the same reaction…

“Cassano is on the road to recovery after the heart surgery, though I don’t know if he’ll manage to be fit in time for Euro 2012. Now he needs to focus only on recovering.”
