Alexis Sanchez has insisted that ‘I don’t regret’ joining Manchester United after being confirmed as Inter’s new No 7.

United made Sanchez their highest earner on almost €450,000 a week when they signed him from Arsenal in January 2018.

However, the ex-Udinese forward managed just five goals in 45 appearances at Old Trafford and he has since returned to Italy with Inter.

United made Sanchez their highest earner on almost €450,000 a week when they signed him from Arsenal in January 2018.

However, the ex-Udinese forward managed just five goals in 45 appearances at Old Trafford and he has since returned to Italy with Inter.

“I’m very happy I went to Manchester United. I’ve always said that. It’s the club that’s won the most in England,” he told BBC Sport.

“When I went to Arsenal it was fantastic – I was happy there – but United were growing at the time, they were buying players to win something.

“I wanted to join them and win everything. I don’t regret going there. I think that I’m happy when I play for my national team.

“I was happy at Manchester United too, but I’ve always said to my friends: I want to play.

“If they would let me play I’ll do my best. Sometimes I’d play 60 minutes then I wouldn’t play the next game – and I didn’t know why.”

The 30-year-old caught the eye for Chile at Copa America yet did not play in any of the Red Devils’ preseason friendlies or Premier League openers.

“I felt fine. I think I did well in the Copa America,” he argued.

“After that, it depended on the Coach to let me play. You need to ask him this question, not me.”

The Nerazzurri, meanwhile, have announced that Alexis will wear their No 7 shirt this season.

It comes after Mauro Icardi vacated the number following his move to Paris Saint-Germain.
