Edgardo Bauza has confessed that Lucas Alario is Argentina’s “No 9 of the future” and hinted the River Plate striker would be over Inter’s Mauro Icardi.

Argentine news agency Telam asked Bauza whether reports that some Albiceleste players did not want Icardi in the national team were true, given the striker’s well-documented private life and solitary international cap, despite his prolific form for Inter.

“No player has asked me to call or not call up someone,” the Coach replied.

“The priorities are the group, the squad and then everything else.

“Icardi is one of the players that we’re considering. He’s in the list of 60 that we’re following.

“He can be called up at any time, and so can anyone who deserves to be. It also applies to Mudo [Franco] Vazquez, who we’re following.

However, Bauza expressed far more enthusiasm about Alario’s chances, the 23-year-old a reported target for the Nerazzurri over the summer.

“Lucas Alario is the No 9 of the future. He has enormous potential for growth and a very big capacity for learning,” he added.

“He’s shown that with both Colon and River, where he’s scored important goals. He can still improve.”
