Incoming Napoli signing Amin Younes has been dropped to the youth team for the rest of the season, Ajax have announced.

The German international has already agreed to sign for the Partenopei when his contract expires at the end of the season, but it appears he is having second thoughts.

However, Napoli insist his contract has already been deposited, so he’ll be tied to them from July 1.

Earlier this month Younes refused to come off the bench for the final few minutes of a game against Heerenveen, which saw him dropped to the youth team, and it has now been announced he’ll stay there for the rest of the season.

“Amin Younes will train for the rest of the season with the Jong Ajax squad,” a statement on the club’s official website reads.

“After he ignored the instruction of Coach Erik ten Hag to come in the final stages of Ajax-SC Heerenveen the winger was initially demoted for at least two weeks.

“Following discussions between Ten Hag, Younes and director of player policy Marc Overmars, this decision has been taken.”

Ten Hag then explained his reasoning for the decision.

“We still have 6 games to play and I only want players who are 100 per cent motivated. A lot has happened with and around Amin this season, and that will undoubtedly play a role.

“However, he hasn’t given us the feeling that his attention is completely with Ajax.

“Marc and I told him today that he’ll train with Jong Ajax for the rest of the season.”
