Serie A teams are returning to their training facilities, initiating individual training, now waiting for the needed protocol to complete the 2019-20 season.

The AIC Vice-President has claimed Italian football will need to ‘restructure’ their distribution of money in the future, to help the lesser clubs in the system.

“The important thing is to resume play, obviously guaranteeing the necessary security,” he told Milano Finanza. “This is the only way we can think of buffering the crisis that has arisen.

“But then we need to restructure our football. Italian football is the one that distributes the least to the youngest among the main European countries. Both in terms of how much Serie A recedes to the lower categories and the gap between what the top clubs and small clubs in Serie A collect.”

The Players’ Union hit out at the forced pay cuts issued and Calcagno points out that the AIC will work to ‘create a solidarity fund’ for the lower leagues in Italy, asking Serie A and Serie B to help out.

“I can understand that the top clubs are able to ask for the suspension of some monthly payments to millionaire stars, but there are smaller clubs who want their employees to cut at least two out of four monthly payments.

“When for those who earn €2,500 a month, it will be a great sacrifice to not receive a monthly payment.

“We will certainly create a solidarity fund together with the FIGC and I hope other components of football, such as Serie A and Serie B, can join.”
