La Viola appealed against the ban but failed, and Zarate’s agent and brother Rolando Zarate revealed that he’s still struggling with it ahead of his return.

“He’s ready to come back after this long absence,” Rolando Zarate told Firenze Viola.

“In these last few weeks he’s worked a lot physically to be at 100 per cent after a good start and now he can’t wait to get back playing.

“He’s still struggling to accept the ban, it was a very difficult period for him. It isn’t easy for anyone to not be able to help your teammates on the pitch.

“Mauro definitely knows he messed up but not enough to have been suspended for three matches. At the most we would’ve accepted a one-match ban, but certainly not three.

“But now it’s all in the past, only the present matters: Mauro wants to play and to win.

“His dream for the season? Definitely to get to the Champions League: it’d be a dream for him as well as for all of the Viola fans.”
