Gonzalo Rodriguez’s agent reveals a “positive meeting” with Fiorentina, who will have “priority” for a renewal.

The defender’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and he has yet to commit to an extended contract.

“I met with [Pantaleo] Corvino, there was a good predisposition on Fiorentina’s part,” Jose Iglesias told reporters.

“We kicked some ideas around, we’ll meet soon to find some answers. Fiorentina have expressed their willingness to renew Gonzalo’s contract, and at the same time Gonzalo is very happy here.

“It was a first conversation, we’ll meet again next week to find a solution. The club made an offer, it wasn’t what we expected but it was still a good one.

“Anyone who knows football knows that you can’t find a solution after just one meeting. Gonzalo Rodriguez’s priority is to remain at Fiorentina.

“Other teams has called me, but the priority has to be the Viola, who have always treated Gonzalo well.

“Fiorentina offered one year with an option for a second, but I won’t talk about figures. It’s not completely finalised yet, but it was certainly a positive first meeting.

“Fiorentina have already offered Gonzalo a role as youth Coach once his career ends. The priority is Fiorentina, we’re looking for common ground.”
