“It wasn’t the best start, certainly not what we’d have hoped for,” Federico Pastorello admitted.

The youngster broke a bone in his arm in the first training session of pre-season, and it was first feared he could be out for several months.

“It wasn’t the best start, certainly not what we’d have hoped for,” Federico Pastorello admitted.

“Unfortunately these things happen, it’s a shame because it was a preventable thing. Sadly the exuberance of a young striker caused this injury, but these things happen.

"Theoretically he could be available for the first league game, the injury was less serious than it could have been.

“He’s already started a whole series of workouts, even with the cast, he’s only lost 15 days and has been working consistently.

“He’s champing at the bit to be there [for the first game of the season], then obviously it’s up to the Coach [Carlo Ancelotti] to decide.

“If he thinks it would be more appropriate not to risk him then there will be no problems.

“We chose Napoli because they were the club that wanted him most, it’s a long-term project so it’s not like the first game will change that scenario.”
