Lautaro Martinez’s agent is “99 per cent” certain his client will join Inter in July, and reveals the striker wants the number 10 shirt.

The Racing Club forward has agreed a deal to join the Nerazzurri, but it hasn’t been finalised yet and there have been suggestions he could remain in Argentina until January.

“We’re waiting until we can travel so Lautaro can take his medicals,” Rolando Zarate explained to FCInterNews.

“There’s a rough agreement, it’s almost done. There are some details missing but we just have to take a flight to confirm everything. There’s no certain date yet though.

“We’re just waiting for confirmation, the medical could be in a week or 10 days, we just need a phone call before we head out.

“Racing have qualified for the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals, and Lautaro has been one of the best players in the competition, which is why they tried to find a solution with Inter to keep the player for the coming months.

“It’s not possible though, the Nerazzurri said no. That decision was communicated to Racing, so it’s a very difficult hypothesis.

“It’s 99 per cent done, the deal is more than secure. I can’t say 100 per cent, but that’s only because we’re waiting for that call to go to Italy and define everything.

“I repeat: we are awaiting this phone call.

“We hope we can arrive soon to sort everything out, while we can only thank Inter. They’ve treated us really well.”

Zarate was also asked what shirt number his client would take.

“The 10 would be good for him, it would be perfect. He’s worn it for Racing with no problems, he’s a lad with a lot of personality and it wouldn’t be too much responsibility for him.

“It would be a nice number, even if it doesn’t depend on us.”
