Lautaro Martinez’s agent met with Inter directors today to discuss a new contract extension. ‘He has Inter in his heart, but he is super competitive and wants a team capable of challenging for everything.’

The centre-forward has been promoted to captain this season after Samir Handanovic was released from his contract and Marcelo Brozovic joined Al-Nassr.

His current contract runs to June 2026, but his representative visited the club headquarters this afternoon to discuss a further extension.

“We meet once a year to discuss the general situation at Inter and Lautaro,” Alejandro Camano told reporters.

“He is the Inter captain, he’s very happy here and Inter have a very good sporting project. Now we are talking about the possibility of making him even happier.

“There is time to talk about the future. Lautaro is one of the three best centre-forwards in the world, but he has Inter in his heart and is very happy here.”

When asked what will make the striker even happier, the response was not about a salary increase.

“It’s not just about money. He is super competitive and wants a team capable of challenging for everything. He wants to play in the best possible Inter to win it all.”

Camano was asked if Martinez will 100 per cent remain at Inter and the reply was perhaps not what the fans wanted to hear.

“Lautaro likes being at Inter, right now. And Inter are happy for Lautaro to stay. We want Inter and Lautaro to reach a reciprocal level of satisfaction.”

The Nerazzurri reached the Champions League Final for the first time in a decade and retained the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana last season.
