Inter “had been asking after Roberto Gagliardini for a long time and he was really won over by the project,” said the Atalanta man’s agent.

A deal has been struck for the 22-year-old to join on loan for €2m with an option to buy for €20m plus €5m in bonuses.

“Inter were the first club to make the move and anticipated everyone else,” Beppe Riso told Sportitalia.

“It was all told a pretty normal negotiation process, nothing difficult about it. (Inter director Piero) Ausilio had been asking after Gagliardini for a long time, so it was not a last-minute thing.

“The lad pushed too, as he was won over by the project presented by Suning.”

Considering this is his first Serie A season, is €22m plus bonuses not a little steep?

“The price is set by the market. He is an investment, a young Italian player with a great future ahead of him. It’s good that Inter are focusing on youngsters who represent the future.”
