Simone Verdi refused a January transfer to Napoli in order to remain at Bologna, but his agent hints he’s got a deal in place for June.

The winger was seen as the number one choice to reinforce mid-season, having already worked with Coach Maurizio Sarri at Empoli, so his snub was a big surprise.

“It’s unacceptable to criticise a player who decides to conclude his growth process before joining a big club. He turned down the chance to triple his wages by giving an immediate response,” agent Giovanni Branchini told Radio Deejay.

“It’s absurd not to understand his decision, especially in today’s football, where players make moves and often regret them. There are so many players who have chosen the biggest spotlight and then disappeared.

“Who says Verdi hasn’t already signed with Napoli for June? Some trees bear fruit immediately, some take their time. Simone is a talent and he’ll play to the age of 35 at high levels, so there is no rush.”
